MLK and India: This Week in Social Studies

posted Dec 1, 2014, 12:14 PM by Warren Wannamaker

Students will be doing a few things this week.

First, we'll spend the first half of the week on a small unit concerning the Civil Rights Movement and the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is an activity that's done in conjunction with Language Arts; students will be working on activities for this unit in both classes. This unit culminates with the students creating a narrative essay in Language Arts about the Civil Rights Movement, which will be utilized during Summit's MLK Day celebrations.

After this unit, students have a few minor activities connecting the Fertile Crescent, our last unit, to our next one, which concerns the ancient civilizations of India. Students will look at similarities and differences between these two regions, and will begin to learn about the geography of ancient India.

Have a great week!
