Civil Rights, Martin Luther King, Jr., and More

This week students will be doing a few things.

First, students spent their Monday working on (and in many cases, finishing) their Library research from last week. Students may still need to finish one or two aspects of it, but we can take care of that later this week.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, students will be participating in a brief interdisciplinary mini-unit with their Language Arts classes. This mini-unit will focus on the Civil Rights Movement in the US, and the life and times of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students will learn about the history of the movement and some of the key events within this very important time period of American history, as well as some of the key figures within the movement.

To do so, students will be working on this unit during both their Social Studies and Language Arts classes, and they'll be accessing many different materials and resources. The mini-unit will culminate in a writing activity in Language Arts.

Lastly, on Friday, we'll be participating in training regarding the Summit Public Schools' new A.L.I.C.E. initiative.

Have a great week!
